Some great results for Modern Art in Monday’s auction. This quirky portrait by the German born British artist Eva Frankfurther (1930-1959), whose work is rarely seen at auction, attracted fierce bidding in the room and online, eventually selling to the former for £1,250!

Brocktorff had fought in the Napoleonic wars as an infantry officer with the forces of the Electorate of Hanover before moving to England after 1809. When he settled in Malta in circa 1810, he opened an art studio in Valletta.
Some great results in yesterday's auction, not least for this rare portrait miniature by Danish artist Charles Frederick de Brocktorff (1775-1850). Depicting a naval officer, the piece sailed way above estimate to sell for a hammer price of £2,400.
