The goal of software design is to create chunks or slices that fit into a human mind. The software keeps growing but the human mind maxes out, so we have to keep chunking and slicing differently if we want to keep making changes.

Seeking for some answer to a puzzling problem? Come up with a hypothesis and a test. Run the experiment multiple times and look for the signals. Also remember: Testing isn't always a great tool for forecasting. A failing test doesn't indicate future performance in that same test.
The current discussion on opening up and relaxing caution (especially in the U.S.) is EXACTLY like dealing with product managers and execs who want to rush a buggy AND poorly-tested product to the market. Trust me; I am a tester.
