David Backes is reportedly on the move. Columbus is rumored to be the destination, and I’ve been told that they are receiving a roster player in return.
In addition to the big news surrounding Florida today, another former Southeastern division team has some exciting news. A “credible” source tells me that the Atlanta Thrashers are making a comeback. Seattle has folded, Atlanta made an 11th hour bid. Marian Hossa to act as GM.
More news from the Marner camp. Contrary to the previous tweet, he would like some stability and is open to a max term deal. Negotiations still ongoing.
Further updates on Marner: his camp isn’t necessarily looking for max term. They would actually prefer something in the range of $10m-11m over 5 years. The Leafs obviously want to lock him up with max term.
More news on the Mitch Marner front: a credible source tells me that he's fairly firm at 10x8 minimum. Toronto is currently exploring several options, depending on whether or not they are able to shed some salary to afford his deal.
A reliable source tells me that the Leafs are hearing offers on pending RFA Mitch Marner. The same source also told me that Paul Marner is not yet aware of this.
LA has had interest in a couple of pieces that still could be contributors elsewhere. Kovalchuk, Carter, and Quick have garnered some offers as of late, but LA would probably be selling low on all of them. They are also possibly looking to trade down at this weekend’s draft.
STL is looking to make a few minor moves this summer. I've already heard talks of a couple of defensemen being shopped. None of their big names seem to be involved.
Ottawa is wanting to move up in this year's draft. They currently hold picks 19 (via CBJ), 32, 44 and 83 in the first three rounds. Not sure if any specific players are in play as far as trade chips, but there could be a few veterans that are attractive to a buyer.
Hearing now that interest has picked up from several teams. Minnesota is probably willing to move him, but only if the price is right. If there is considerable interest, a bidding war could happen.
Another interesting tidbit, I've heard that Jason Zucker is not expected to be moved, although there have been some inquiries. Not sure how that situation may play out.
@JimothyMorphy You've been rused Jimothy. I can confirm that Buffalo is cooking up something with a central team as we speak. Reportedly a big trade with many pieces involved.
A source I spoke with yesterday told me that negotiations with Kasperi Kapanen and the Toronto Maple Leafs were "extremely quick" and that a new contract is imminent.
