Jeremiah has been my fav since s1. The story validated my belief in him. He is an emotional SUCCESS story. He had the good sense to learn and accept an actual life lesson -i.e. You cannot love someone out of their destructive tendencies.- So choose yourself and move on.
Conflict made #TSITP a cultural obsession. Without it, can a movie even work?
Or is a Bonrad wedding just fanservice cash grab dressed in white? 💍✨

Nostalgia, fantasy, and the illusion of growth — #TheSummerITurnedPretty finale left Bonrad with a “happy ending” that still feels unearned. #TSITP (By Jasmine Blu) https://t.co/0eTNAPYRBN
Anyway, I'm sorry about what happened to Belly. She deserved a lot better, but I'm grateful to whoever wrote Jere's ending because it most def wasn't JH. Anyway, I'm moving on from this mess of a show.
Well, I'm going to try to be done with this and just forget about this show. Trying to make the audience believe that she wrote some epic romance when she HAS to add content after it's over to even try to make that ship make sense is not worth discussing anymore. It's just dumb.
Pretending like this was who Belly was the whole time is another lie. She had personality, was growing and was coming into her own, but she decided that in order for her ship to work, Belly had to be reduced to a child. She was right b/c no healthy adult MC would want that man.
belly asked CONRAD if their love was rooted in grief. belly and jeremiah’s relationship ended because of her love for conrad. you cannot flip the narrative after you’ve already shown the audience something completely different. writing a love triangle is accepting
Is JH trying to undo that fact bellyjere were best friends too? She sounds ridiculous. And the dishonesty on her part is bizarre. She didn't write a good love story for the endgame ship. Why can't she just accept it? That's why she wants a movie. There is no there there.
@ismeriewrites This is exactly the problem! JH tried to change showBelly into bookBelly at the last second, and it did not translate. It made her seem like an entirely different person.
the finale not acknowledging the rest of the show was bad enough. but to act like you can retcon what we saw ON SCREEN for 90% of the season, to act like your woman lead was actively deluding herself, all to justify a botched, shallow endgame, is pathetic. nasty behaviour.
@downbadscaz17 Yup. Her other option was yk...be single.
The point is the narrative acting like she finally "chose him over Jere" in the triangle when there was no choice anymore like it was either get with him or don't.
It's not clever or genius to walk your story in one direction and then suddenly change it. It's proves that you're an amateur. You don't really grasp the concept of an arc. You also don't grasp theme or structure. I know she didn't write Jere's arc. She has no idea HOW to do it.
He never follows through. He reneges on his school and work commitments. He doesn't sound like an intelligent person. He is self-centered, rude, disrespectful of others' boundaries. Literally HATES his brother. Isn't a good or caring friend. But I'm supposed to think she won out?
(1) Jenny Han has a pattern of trying to retro-justify or rewrite her choices after the fact, and every time she explains it, it ends up contradicting either the books, the show, or her own earlier interviews. It starts to feel less like “canon” & more like PR damage control.
If you have to EXPLAIN away your characters actions OUTSIDE of the medium, then you are not a good artist. If you didn't convey it on the page or screen, then it didn't happen. What you did do was: CONTRIVANCE, COINCIDENCE, or CONVENIENCE. All signs of terrible writing.
I don't even think it will take five years for people to wake up. Let some of these folks get into a few real life relationships and then go back and watch the show. They will be so confused as to what they ever liked about that mess of a ship. It's not even a good toxic ship.
no one can replace bellyjere in my heart. belly was the only person jere ever loved. he said “there were other girls but they weren’t her” but now after everything, he’s found someone that chooses him without pause and will show him he’s worthy & love isn’t supposed to be hard
