"...Hartley Burr Alexander’s use of symbolism at the capitol culminates in the seven-story rotunda dome, where Hildreth Meière represented eight winged virtues that together comprise the Virtues of the State..." @HildrethMeiere

One of my favorite Renaissance manuscripts is Perspectiva Corporum Regularium by German artist, goldsmith & engraver Wenzel Jamnitzer. Published in 1568, the manuscript is a study of how the five platonic solids could be truncated, stellated, and faceted to produce 24 variations.
Today's #convergentpatterns bring us a though-provoking juxtaposition between two taxonomies, respectively of coal hole covers and plastic coffee lids.
Oil Spill (2016) is Fabian Oefner's exploration of Iridescence. Oefner poured water into a black reservoir. With the aid of a syringe, he then added small drops of oil onto the water surface. As oil expanded it formed all sorts of evocative, colorful structures.
The first #convergentpatterns trio is here. I hope you enjoy this provocative juxtaposition. This particular visual pattern was one of 21 featured in the #bookofcircles. It's a great example of visual convergence across different fields.
👉 (Right): Color Chart by EDIT (2015). Visualization depicting the fall 2015 season in fashion through a breakdown of all colors from each garment shown during Fashion Week in London, Milan, Paris, and New York.
Today's #convergentpatterns brings us an interesting juxtaposition of sunburst diagrams, contrasting varieties of cheese and garment colors in fashion.
👈 (Left): The Charted Cheese Wheel by Pop Chart Lab (2013). A diagram of sixty-five popular cheese varieties, grouped by their texture (soft, semi-soft, semi-hard, hard) and producing animal (cow, sheep, goat, buffalo). Cow cheeses constitute the large majority.
It was part of his argument that the Earth must have originated in the biblical Great Flood; God would have created the world in a perfect sphere, and only a flood could have left it in such a deformed shape. California appears as an island off the coast of North America.
Created by British theologian Thomas Burnet in 1964, this is an unusual map that shows the world as if the oceans did not exist - the entire planet devoid of water.

How do you flatten a sphere? For centuries, mapmakers have agonized over how to accurately display our #planet in 2D.
Now, a fundamental re-imagining of how #maps can work has resulted in a #design that might be the most accurate flat map ever made.

@creativecodeart Been considering getting involved with nfts, although concerned about the energy usage. It does seem like platforms are working towards fixing that though. Here are some cool planets that might make good nfts.

Supernova remnant 0519-69.0 was left behind after a massive #star exploded in a satellite galaxy to the Milky Way known as the Large Magellanic Cloud. About 30 light years across, this expanding shell of debris contains multimillion degree gas that glows brightly in X-ray light.
👉 (right) A World of Languages (2015) by Alberto Lucas López. A chart of the major 23 languages used in the world today. Each language cell is sized according to number of native speakers and subdivided into the countries in which the language is spoken. 3/3
