We named ourselves ‘Books from Herbie’ after one of our founders dad, Herbie Pillay, who passed away 3 weeks ago. Herbie spent his whole life fighting for racial equality, as a key member of the anti-apartheid movement, an educator and psychologist.

4% of children’s books published in 2018 had a protagonist who was not white. This doesn’t reflect our society. After speaking to teachers across London, we recognised an issue, their need for more inclusive material but a lack of funding. Enter Books from Herbie #Diversity #blm
