80-90% of the remake is objectively better than the original. Haters will deny this, but it's true.

Almost everything that made the original game so memorable was faithfully recreated and upgraded in the remake. There are obviously a few changes that didn't work, but they're mostly inconsequential. Among those changes are: Mary's dialogue/voice acting, Maria's outfit, incorrect lighting, flat camera angles, and the removal of the disturbing sexual subtext around Pyramid Head (which Masahiro Ito claims never existed, to begin with).

Apart from those alterations, the remake is a faithful recreation of the 2001 horror classic that only enhances the visuals and lore.
