The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast above-normal temperatures across much of the country from July to September, warning of a challenging monsoon season.
Higher temperatures, combined with heavy rainfall in northern regions, could increase the risk of flash floods, landslides, glacier melt, and urban flooding. Southern Punjab and Sindh may also experience periodic heatwaves, while prolonged warm and humid conditions could contribute to the spread of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue.
The PMD has advised the public to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat, and remain alert for weather updates throughout the season.

Alhamdulillah, starting today, cashless transactions are operational at all Passport Offices across Pakistan.
Applicants no longer need to stand in long queues or wait for hours to make payments. This important reform was initiated on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and our team has successfully delivered it.
This is another step towards making public services faster, more transparent, and more convenient for our citizens. Many more milestones lie ahead, and, InshaAllah, we will continue to achieve them.
Well done to the entire Passport team. Keep up the excellent work.

We are endeavouring to create the finest urban forest in history of Islamabad.
With 200,000 native pine trees planted, our mission is now entering next phase. Over the coming six months, we aim to plant another 800,000 native trees, transforming this vision into one of Pakistan's most significant urban reforestation efforts.
The first monsoon rains arrived yesterday, providing ideal conditions to resume our plantation campaign. Today, in collaboration with Imarat group under corporate social responsibility programme, we proudly kickstarted this next chapter, taking another major step toward a greener, healthier, and more resilient Islamabad.
Every tree planted is an investment in cleaner air, cooler neighborhoods, richer biodiversity, and a better future for generations to come.
Chinese commentator Victor Gao said that China, not India, is the upstream country on parts of the Indus river system and suggested that if India blocks Pakistan’s water, China could consider taking similar measures affecting water flowing into India.
Referring to the Indus Waters Treaty, Gao argued that stopping Pakistan’s water would go against international norms and could lead to serious humanitarian consequences. His remarks come as discussions continue over the future of the treaty and regional water security.
Gao’s comments reflect his personal views and do not represent the official position of the Chinese government.

Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has directed provincial authorities to begin immediate action against Afghan nationals residing in the country without valid visas from July 10 under the Illegal Foreigners’ Repatriation Plan (IFRP).
Provinces have been instructed to coordinate with district administrations and law enforcement agencies and submit daily implementation reports starting July 11. Since the campaign began in 2023, more than two million Afghans have reportedly returned or been deported.
The government says the policy is linked to immigration enforcement, national security, and economic concerns, while international organizations have raised concerns over the impact of deportations.

📈 Will Pakistani lithium reserves power the economy?
🇵🇰🇨🇳 Pakistan and China have signed a deal to build a lithium-ion battery plant in Karachi's Korangi Industrial Area. Initial output will be around 2,000 batteries per month. Production is expected to begin in the next two to three months.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's special assistant, Haroon Akhtar, says the plant will launch a new industrial sector in Pakistan.
Sputnik spoke to Hannan Hussain, a senior expert at Initiate Futures and a Fulbright scholar.
Key points:
🟠 Lithium-ion batteries are critical to Pakistan's booming solar energy sector — and the deal with China is a building block for the country's green energy ambitions.
🟠 Technology transfer is expected to be smooth, but full skills development will take years due to the complexity of the technology.
🟠 Local production could make electric vehicles more affordable — Punjab is already rolling out cost-effective electric cars — but consumers will have to wait several years for the full benefits.
The bigger picture:
🔸 Pakistan holds vast unexploited lithium reserves in Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan.
🔸 Large-scale extraction is still in its infancy, but a recent mineral summit drew interest from the US and China.
🔸 To build a sustainable industry, Pakistan needs to attract more foreign investors, foster competition and reduce operational risks.
💬 "These reserves have been a prominent feature of Pakistan's selling point to the world," Hussain said. "When it comes to green energy transition, Pakistan defines it in ways that benefit its economy."
