Of all the grave crises Pakistan is facing, nothing is more existential than the crisis within its intelligentsia.

Decades of state repression, tyranny and personal ambitions have disconnected them from their own reality, taking away not just their voice and credibility, but their ability to imagine and offer a better alternate to direct and indirect military rule.

Today, some can't, many won't, and most others simply don't want to speak about the problems at home. Hence, they compensate by showing solidarity with victims or expressing outrage against oppressors elsewhere around the world.
