In 1980, I was among the anti-authoritarian leftists who cofounded the world's first Green Party in Germany + became their president for 4 yrs. We could never have imagined that there would be an antisemitic Green Party in the UK. I despise jew-haters. They are preparing pogroms.
While the Greens are debating accepting rules which would ban Jews from public life I do wonder where the ‘it’s just like 1930s Germany!’ crowd have gone now it actually is just like 1930s Germany.
Hunter-gatherers are romanticized as naturally generous. But this generosity is the result of repeated resource extraction through forceful demands, complaints, ridicule, gossip and ostracism. Equality emerges from self-interest and coercion.

I think it’s funny that the tech bros are just stumbling into this, thinking their expertise is making numbers go fast somehow translates to metaphysics
the church has been discussing ontology for literal millennia. most of western thought was church flavored for ages, and it’s only in the last century or so that the greatest thinkers have not been religious.
thinking that the hierarchy is somehow dumb or uneducated is a huge mistake, your new age spirituality or local televangelist might have given you the wrong impression
We had a model of instructional design that demonstrably worked for teaching early reading/Math since the late 60s. Then education academics spent the next 50 years demonising it and training new teachers to do the exact opposite - skills-based/choose your own adventure curriculum design, minimally guided instruction, contempt for standardised testing etc and now we are where we are.
New details following Saudi Arabia and UAE investigation of the co-pilot who tried to hijack and crash the Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv:
🚩 His name is Hamam al-Hammami. He is 29 and Omani, and he was born in the UAE to an Omani father and a Syrian mother. In 2024, while he was a trainee at Oman Air, he was reportedly found with Islamic extremist material and was taken off flying duties.
🚩 Flydubai hired him anyway, and according to one source it never checked with Oman Air first. He had worked there for about eight months.
🚩 He filmed El Al and Arkia planes at Dubai airport on October 11, 2023, four days after October 7.
🚩 A LinkedIn account identified as his posted cockpit footage that ended with pictures of Ayman al-Zawahiri and of the suicide bomber who killed seven CIA officers in Afghanistan in 2009.
🚩 The UAE's prosecutor general calls this a terrorist operation and says he attacked the captain with the cockpit crash axe.
🚩 The plane dropped from 33,000 to 17,000 feet in about a minute. The captain, Smit Machchhar, was wounded but got the cockpit door open so passengers and crew could get in and hold him down.
🚩 A passenger says the co-pilot told them he had failed in his mission and wanted to die, asked them to kill him.
🚩 Israel has rules meant to keep pilots from countries without diplomatic relations with Israel off these flights, and officials say he got around them through a loophole.
The only reason everyone on that flight is alive is that a wounded captain managed to open the cockpit door and brave passengers took over. Every red flag was there before he ever boarded, and the people who ignored them owe the passengers an explanation.
This is an interesting way of thinking about why the denial of Jewish peoplehood fits so comfortably into contemporary leftwing politics. I’d add another dimension to it.
The denial of Jewish peoplehood on the left actually has a very long ideological and political history & is intimately tied to the history of leftwing antizionism. In my lectures, I trace it back to the early 20th century, when the Bolsheviks were arguing with Zionists over the solution to the “Jewish Question.”
The idea of Jewish peoplehood wasn’t invented by Zionists of course, but it was Zionists’ central argument in favor of Jewish sovereignty and self-determination in the Land of Israel as a response to murderous European and Russian antisemitism.
The Bolsheviks rejected the Zionist conception of Jews as a single people—or nation—transcending the countries in which they lived.
Stalin offered the theoretical case in his 1913 article “Marxism and the National Question.” In it, he argued that Jews scattered across different countries didn’t have a shared territory, language, culture, and economic activity and therefore did not constitute a single nation.
But I believe that the real reason for their opposition to this idea had to do with practical politics. The Bolsheviks needed the support of the Russian Empire’s vast and oppressed Jewish population, and Zionists were competition. (So was the Bund, by the way.)
The solution they proposed was for Jews to join the socialist revolution and dissolve into the great new Soviet socialist society — in other words, to assimilate. Antisemitism, they argued, would automatically disappear under socialism, and so Jews would live happily ever after as ordinary Soviet citizens, ultimately leaving their Jewishness behind. This basic philosophy persisted as the years went on. (Antisemitism, of course, didn’t disappear with the dawning of socialism.)
In the late 1960s, the USSR acquired a new reason to reject Jewish peoplehood: the dissident Jewish movement — the Refuseniks — which demanded the right for Soviet Jews to rejoin the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland. With Jews around the world staging a massive campaign to support the Refuseniks under the slogan “Let My People Go,” Soviet propaganda invested massive resources in arguing that Jews didn’t constitute a single people; that American, Israeli, and Soviet Jews had nothing to do with one another; and that Jews belonged in the countries they lived in.
This became a crucial part of the massive Soviet international antizionist propaganda campaign, unleashed in the wake of the Six Day War. It was geared first and foremost toward the global left. The latter adopted this idea along with everything else Moscow sold them on the subject of Jews, Zionism, and Israel. (See my pinned threads for my writings on the subject.)
The Soviets had an additional geopolitical reason to keep denying Jewish peoplehood: the position of their Arab allies, including the PLO. For them, the denial of Jewish peoplehood was key to stemming the inflow of Jewish immigration to Israel and denying Israel’s right to exist.
The 1968 PLO Charter declared that Judaism is a religion rather than an independent nationality; that Jews do not constitute a single nation with an identity of their own; and that “they are citizens of the states to which they belong” — a position that almost exactly mirrors the Soviet one.
In my view, the denial of Jewish peoplehood is one of those fundamental aspects of leftwing antizionist beliefs that comes with being a card-carrying leftist. It happens to fit neatly into the currently fashionable iteration of the oppressor/oppressed binary (itself an outgrowth of the classical Marxist view of the world), but the latter largely confirms a preexisting belief. The foundations for this belief were laid much, much earlier.
The reason leftists deny Jewish peoplehood is because the Jewish experience blasts a giant hole in their worldview.
Leftism is the belief that any disparity in outcomes are due to oppression, because everyone is the same.
But then there’s us.
A people who’ve succeeded and thrived under some of the harshest conditions any people have ever been subjected to. Who have broken far larger enemies and restored our ancient language through our intelligence and sheer collective willpower.
Who restored our political independence in a massive war right after the worlds first and *only* global mechanized biological extermination killed a third of our population, and then kept and protected and grew that independence until, despite its size, it towered over its enemies in strength, wealth, science, and cultural output.
So if we could do all that despite having been oppressed, what does that say about other oppressed people who achieved far less?
Or achieved less despite never having been oppressed at all?
Thus, they NEED us to just be White people with a weird religion. They NEED to downplay what we’ve faced and overcome.
Because the alternative is to wonder if maybe what produces disparities in group outcomes cannot simply be reduced to oppression after all.
It might be something that really, really scares them to think about.
What a country teaches its children matters.
Children grow up to be adults very quickly.
Oppressor/oppressed-
If the youth see everything through this lens, it justifies any sort of behaviour.
All of Carlson’s disingenuous techniques are on display here. Half-truths, quotes of context, taking what the other person says and twisting it. Mehdi has a similar playbook.
You have to be exceptionally good even to hold your own, and Rees Mogg owns him.
Now seems like a good time to remind everyone that Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party used left wing rhetoric to make their antisemitism and other reactionary beliefs more palatable to the general public. They never really believed in socialism.
Just reminding everyone, no reason.
