My son Jack was diagnosed with autism when he was eighteen months old.

He went to an integrated preschool.

He was referred out of district in sixth grade.

He graduated from a very small high school.

Three years ago, after a year in a community with a lot of support, Jack was accepted into college.

Yesterday, I offered to share our story with a major online platform. They declined. They said they are only interested in traditional success stories.

What is this, I thought, if not a success story?

It's not a pretty story, that's true. It's not traditional.

It's not a s story wrapped up in a perfect GPA or glowing recommendations.

It's a story about a boy, a diagnosis, and a whole lot of grit and determination.
