@Damazonia_ 1. The load rating of a cable (aka wire rope) at the time of manufacture is not a guarantee for all of eternity. Use and/or abuse can degrade it. Bending causes microcracks to coalesce into larger cracks which can eventually lead to a fatigue fracture.
@Damazonia_ 2/ Take a paper clip and bend it back and forth repeatedly. I saw a 1000 lb. hoist cable broken by a dom twisting it extensively via spinning his submissive. An 18 inch length of the 3/8 inch diameter cable was expanded into a 1.5 inch spaced wire spiral.
@Damazonia_ 3. The broken ends were crisp i.e. flat to about 1/16th of an inch indicating fracture. A cable loaded beyond its yield limit will stretch. A breaking load will cause long thin spindly ends to the break.
@Damazonia_ 4. Alexa @MC_DFW has provided a fairly ingenious method of detecting wear on the outer strands. That MAY be where most of the wear occurs, but I propose to ask VinylQueen @vinylsolution to use her contacts in construction to confirm or deny this.
@InannaLdn You were the classiest woman to grace the Parthenon. i'm sure You're the classiest sick person in the UK. Nonetheless, i hope You will return to being the very classy healthy woman.
@TheBitchEmpress Some time ago @AthenaFatale tweeted that She was doing a show in an auditorium that bore a purchased corporate name. She was dismayed at the practice.
I tweeted back, "How about Astroglide Auditorium?"
Instantly She replied,"No! Astroglide Insertatorium, parking in the rear."
@Acosta I was born in 1947. The first thing I remember from Murrow is "Harvest of Shame". But I have no words to describe the brilliance of the Buchenwald quote. Thank you.
