@mindpalaze @onlyhereforpkmn Okay, now take into account everything Fire Emblem that’s been included since Castle Seige debuted in Brawl and evaluate why I included it.
@BringBackBanjoK Pretty sure Disney’s nuclear-meltdown level butthurt over X-Men did the most damage here m8. That and how nasty those Chun-Li and Dante models looked during prerelease.
@LiberalyLike @TsuchinokoT_H Correct. You can marry Dinah, the werefox unit, and make her the queen of your kingdom at the end. She’s a later game unit though, so there’s a level of commitment there.
@467Doggo If we’re stuck between a rich kid’s hipster movie wearing the mask of an indie game and a $1 Billion Frankenstein’s monster game made by a company devoid of its prior star talent, then I think that just speaks to how thoroughly cooked the industry is.
@themblan1@BringBackBanjoK It always amounts to bringing up how much of Zelda 1’s map wasn’t gated and some concept art from the 80’s of Link looking at a horizon.
@themblan1@BringBackBanjoK They do the same thing with Zelda when anyone brings up that BotW and TotK are very mid Ubisoft collectible checklist games with a “Make your own fun” design philosophy and not Zelda games.
@yoavdontmiss@TheNCSmaster It’s an impressive gimmick from a hardware utilization standpoint stapled onto a very mediocre Legend of Zelda that wants to be an Ubisoft game instead.
@DylanBandicoot@ActualAero It’s night and day how much better Zelda stories were when Koizumi had a say in the franchise. The man has very exceptional, eccentric tastes that make for very wild, flavorful adventure games.
@mask_bastard And then Skyward Sword onward with it’s focus on Goddess Forever Wife and Undying Demise Hate is getting more and more boring and derivative the longer we stick with it.
@mask_bastard The stories seem to be inversely proportional in quality to how much Zelda and Ganon are pushed to the forefront. Case in point: Link’s Awakening and Majora’s Mask forcefully created a plot without them and are the best stories in the franchise.
@467Doggo I do not hate swordlords on the basis of them being swordlords. I hate them on the basis of 'big unga-bunga Smash attack" and "Down Special Counter' always being their go-to kit when Sakurai adapts them.
@Veyle_ Zelda 1 was key item gated
Zelda 1 was structured around completing dungeons
There was some level of flexibility
Zelda 1 was not a scattered trinket checklist like a Ubisoft game
Zelda 1 didn’t break your sword every 5 minutes
It was not a “make your own fun” game
