@wish_mayu I started wearing Lolita fashion around 20 years ago. At that time, my local community was pretty toxic and full of drama, so it wasn't worth my time anymore 🫠 Actually, I felt validated when I watched the movie Kamikaze Girls. Momoko is a great example of a solo enjoyer.

Why do Jirai Kei brands explicitly draw the line by saying, "We are not a Lolita brand ☺️," even though they sell shared accessories like headdresses and wrist cuffs?
The answer lies in a definitive contrast in both philosophy and structure, shaped by Japanese fashion history. Put simply, their cultural roots are polar opposites.
🎀 Lolita Fashion
Rooted in a uniquely Japanese tradition of "escaping reality," its essence lies in self-containment as a beautiful doll. It sets an inviolable boundary toward the outside world, conveying a silent message: "Do not look at me." Consequently, it is fundamentally mismatched with today's glittering, selfie-driven, and attention-seeking SNS culture.
🖤 Jirai Kei Fashion
Interestingly, many of these brands actually originated from the Heisei-era "Gyaru" and "Hime-kei" scenes.
The intense energy of self-expression inherent to Gyaru culture has evolved alongside modern digital society, transforming into a desperate craving for attention and attachment: "Look at me! My fave is everything 🥺💞."
It is a hyper-realistic style for modern girls, 100% optimized for SNS culture to project raw, vulnerable human emotions through a screen.
In short:
・Lolita rejects reality to exist quietly in a serene space.
・Jirai Kei embraces the messy friction of reality to connect through a screen.
No matter how similar the visual components (motifs) may appear, the brands themselves understand best that their underlying mindsets are completely contradictory. That is why they never casually claim the "Lolita" title. This clear boundary reflects deep intelligence and profound respect for both cultures.

As a side note, this analysis comes from an industry perspective of someone who has worked as a shop staff for both Lolita and Gyaru brands, and who also knows dressmaking (garment construction and patterning). Having been on the inside of both creating and selling, this proud and deliberate boundary drawn by the brands makes perfect sense to me.
@spotifylll@T69014794 Western makeup always makes women look 10-20 years older. People always say I look younger and swear it's because I do Asian-style makeup (aside from skincare, of course))
