If Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, and ʿUthmān pledged allegiance on the day of Ghadīr, why did the Imām not implement the command of the Prophet ﷺ?
The most common explanation of this report is that the nākithīn refer to Ṭalḥah, al-Zubayr, and ʿĀʾishah, the qāsiṭīn refer to Muʿāwiyah and ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, and the māriqīn refer to the Khawārij.
From the perspective of the Twelver Shiʿah, this prophecy was therefore fulfilled.
However, if Ghadīr was a binding designation of the Imamate, then the first broken oaths occurred at the hands of Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, and ʿUthmān.
If Sayyidunā ʿAlī رضي الله عنه challenged Abū Bakr at Saqīfah, then he already knew that many people would reject his claim.
Either he would have been able to establish his authority or he would not.
If he was unable to do so, it could only be because the overwhelming majority of the Ṣaḥābah rejected the divinely appointed Imām.
This would entail that those who directly accompanied the Prophet ﷺ failed to uphold one of the most fundamental obligations of the religion, that is necessary for salvation, immediately after his death. This would imply that the Prophet ﷺ failed in his mission.
If, however, he was able to establish his authority, then why did he not take up arms against those who had allegedly violated the Prophet’s ﷺ command?
It cannot be argued that this was merely to avoid division or bloodshed, for division and bloodshed occurred during the First Fitnah, when Sayyidunā ʿAlī رضي الله عنه fought at al-Jamal, Ṣiffīn, and Nahrawān.
In that case, either he refrained from implementing a prophetic command despite possessing the ability to do so, which would contradict the doctrine of infallibility and constitutes disobedience/sin, or the Imām possesses the authority to suspend or override the implementation of a prophetic command according to his own judgment.
The implications of both positions are clear.
Pick your poison.
May Allah ﷻ be pleased with the Companions.
And Allah ﷻ knows best.
@ZaeemAl99402138@3ia13x@_Mohammadx99 1) There is absolutely no linguistic count in the Quran for that word that equals 72 as far as I am aware.
2) The Google Research you screenshot literally refutes you.
