‘I don’t believe in God. In Spain all 22 players make the sign of the cross before they come into the field. If it works it always end in a draw.” - Johan Cruijff. #atheism
A new Freedom of Thought Report by @HumanistsInt was released:
“The number of governments adopting authoritarian practices at the expense of non-religious people and religious minorities is increasing.”

The 🇺🇸 cemetery in Margraten, the Netherlands. I was last here in 2005, when President Bush commemorated the shared struggle for freedom and justice. On a wall: “To you from failing hands we throw / The torch; be yours to hold it high.” Words that feel more urgent than ever today
Murder of someone you disagree with can NEVER be justified or nuanced. It brings everything to a halt: debate, dissent, moral convictions—everything. And it lowers the threshold for further violence, which may one day strike you as well. Always reject it.

Nice to see a lot of fellow humanists, atheists and freethinkers from all over the world for the assembly of Humanists International, this year in Luxemburg. @HumanistsInt
During the meeting of @HumanistsInt in Luxembourg, we celebrated the presence of Mubarak Bala. For years, he was imprisoned in Nigeria for his humanist and non-religious beliefs and activism. Humanists International campaigned successfully for his release.
@georgehayworth Even easier. You can be a good person,
without believing in man-made gods or miracles. Be a humanist! Find strength in being compassionate towards others, find inspiration in other people, nature, science and art.
The fight against Hamas is legitimate, but not Netanyahu’s brutal actions, which also harm too many innocent civilians and their children. And for the record: Israel ≠ Netanyahu. Many Israelis — including families of the hostages — do not support Netanyahu, or no longer do.
Pope Francis – Jorge Mario Bergoglio – has passed away. He dared to tinker with dogmas and was refreshingly unconventional in a few important ways. Although I am neither Catholic nor religious, I found him a hopeful figure in an increasingly dangerous world.
The White House meeting between Trump, Vance, and Zelensky turned into a squabble. While many European opinionleaders still gasp, lips trembling as ‘process’ it all, Zelensky has already given solid de-escalatory interviews, unfazed by Friday’s rugby, keeping his eye on the ball.
“Today marks the birth anniversary of Charles Darwin (1809), the scientist who demonstrated through his research that species, including humans, have evolved through natural selection. In several countries, humanists celebrate ‘Darwin Day.’ More should follow! 👍
