I have just arrived in Port-au-Prince on a solidarity visit with the people of Haiti.
The humanitarian situation here is desperate, but there are faint glimmers of hope.
My message to the international community:
Stop looking away.
We must stand with Haiti.
Deeply concerned about growing violence in Haiti and a worsening situation for children.
Children killed, kidnapped and injured, and schools burned are grave violations that must stop.
All parties must protect the rights of children. Haiti’s children deserve a better future.
UNICEF is deeply concerned that intensifying hostilities in Ukraine pose an immediate threat to the lives and wellbeing of the country’s 7.5 million children.
Children have been killed.
Children have been wounded.
And children are being profoundly traumatized by the violence all around them. The children of #Ukraine need peace now.
The most vulnerable #children are the hardest hit by #COVID19 school closures. @UNICEF is working with governments to make sure that when schools reopen, they reopen with all the safety measures in place & secure the best interests #ForEveryChild.
Schools may be closed due to #COVID-19 but our teams continue to work to improve access to education in #CARcrisis. 51 classes newly constructed and equipped with latrines will be ready to welcome 4,000 pre-school and school students in #Bouar and its surroundings.
Thanks @Kfw
Every child released from association with armed groups needs holistic support. In #Bossangoa, a local tailor trains five apprentices in his workshop to help them adapt to civilian life and become productive members of the community.
Thanks @eu_echo
In these temporary learning spaces in Kaga Bandoro, more than 1,400 displaced children have a chance to study and learn thanks to the support of @EduCannotWait.
#ForEveryChild, a bright future.

As the calendar flips each January, we are reminded of all the possibility and potential of each child embarking on her or his life’s journey - if they are just given that chance.

Happy New Year dear friends, partners and supporters! Over 65,000 children will be born across West and Central Africa today. Let us continue to work together to ensure babies are born into a trained pair of hands so they can thrive for years to come. #EveryChildAlive
