As a Myanmar person and a Rakhine person, I am deeply angry and disappointed. The traditional Rakhine oil lamp dance is a sacred cultural performance offered with reverence to the Buddha. It is not a dance meant to entertain men. This dance carries deep religious and cultural significance for our people. Please do not misrepresent our traditions. We deserve respect, proper acknowledgment, and a clear explanation.

မြန်မာလူမျိုးတစ်ယောက်အနေနဲ့ရော ရခိုင်လူမျိုးတစ်ယောက်အနေနဲ့ပါ အလွန်ဒေါသထွက်ပြီး စိတ်ပျက်မိပါတယ်။ ရခိုင်ရိုးရာ ဆီမီးခွက်အကဟာ ဗုဒ္ဓမြတ်စွာဘုရားကို ရိုသေကြည်ညိုစွာ ပူဇော်ကပြတဲ့ မြင့်မြတ်တဲ့ ယဉ်ကျေးမှုအကတစ်ခု ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ အမျိုးသားတွေကို ဖျော်ဖြေဖို့ ရည်ရွယ်ထားတဲ့အက မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

A Response to Those Bringing Myanmar’s Political Situation Into This Discussion

Myanmar’s current political situation should never be used to dismiss or undermine the voices of its people when they speak up for their cultural heritage. Despite the challenges our country faces, we still have every right to value our history, protect our traditions, and ask for our culture to be represented with proper understanding and respect.

A country’s struggles do not erase its history or diminish the value of its cultural identity. Speaking up for our heritage does not mean we are ignoring the difficulties our people are facing. These are two separate matters, and one should never be used to invalidate the other.

Please keep the discussion focused on cultural representation rather than using Myanmar’s circumstances to discredit the concerns of its people. We are simply asking for our heritage to be treated with respect and for the questions raised to be properly addressed.
