Today, Sept. 21, marks the 53rd year of dictator Ferdinand Marcos’ declaration of martial law — described by many Filipinos as one of the darkest chapters in Philippine history.
During the period, there were around 107,200 primary victims of rights violations, 70,000 people were arrested, mostly arbitrarily without warrants of arrest, 34,000 people were tortured, and 3,240 others were killed by the military and police, according to Amnesty International. #NeverAgain #NeverForget

The magazine praised the senator for her unwavering commitment to social justice, noting that she remains a vital voice in today's political landscape. 'PUTTING EVERYONE'S TAXES TO GOOD USE': RISA NAMED ONE OF PEOPLEASIA'S PEOPLE OF THE YEAR 2025
Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros has been recognized as one of PeopleAsia's People of the Year 2025.
The magazine highlighted Hontiveros' bold and tireless efforts, particularly her crusade against illegal offshore gaming operators and her advocacy for meaningful legislative measures benefiting women, the poor, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
"From her bold, tireless and no-nonsense crusade against illegal offshore gaming operators to pushing for meaningful and relevant legislative measures... Sen. Risa Hontiveros... is putting everyone’s taxes to good use," PeopleAsia noted.
The publication also commended her consistency on sensitive issues, including human rights violations, as a hallmark of her public service.
