⭐ IN CLAY - A NEW MUSICAL - UPSTAIRS AT THE GATEHOUSE ⭐

I was lucky enough to catch the brand-new musical In Clay, at the wonderful Upstairs At The Gatehouse the other night, and let me tell you what a treat it was 😍

This is the first, fully-staged production of this musical, which has been developed over the last couple of years, featuring a critically acclaimed run at the now sadly defunct Vault Festival 😮‍💨

This is a one-woman, one-act 90 minute musical, and what a magical 90 minutes they are ✨

Set in the late 1930s and based on a true story, Rosalind Ford stars as Marie-Berthe Cazin, a ceramist, who weaves the tale of her life, love and art from her Parisian apartment. Ford is an expert storyteller, effortlessly pulling you into the world of a bygone era, in a magnetic performance which will lead you to laughter and tears 🌟

In Clay is one of the most distinctive sounding new musicals currently playing in London, featuring many jazz infused numbers, from composer Jack Miles and co-lyricist Rebecca Simmonds. Featuring jaunty melodies, paired with witty lyrics, my favourites included the effervescent "Talent" and the heartbreaking "Empty Letters" ✉️

Director Grace Taylor fully utilises the imitate Gatehouse theatre to maximum effect, featuring beautiful and thoughtful set & costume design by Rachel Ryan, with wonderful lighting design by Chris McDonnell 💡

@JennisonVikki @Rob_Madge_02 It’s not too hard at all. Takes maybe a day or two, and then it just flows. Remember we use “they” as singular all the time… eg: find an umbrella under the table at a restaurant?… “who’s left THEIR umbrella here?”
