@Table500TCG Newer games don’t fix this issue. They make it worse by making the ability to overpower the enemy with item spam and grinding even easier.
The biggest takeaway from the HGSS discussion is that there's a massive disconnect between people who engage in ALL the cheese (prio healing/status removal via Potion/bag item spam, prio +6 stats via X items, etc) and people who correctly believe doing that is skill-less nonsense
@Table500TCG These games are perfectly playable if you don’t do either. The only issue is that they don’t stop people like you from wanting to make the game as boring as possible.
@LuigiisG True, but the Pokewalker doesn’t fix anything about HGSS the same way the Dreamworld doesn’t fix anything about BW/BW2. They’re just bonus side content. The games are perfectly playable as is.
The “slow frail mixed attacker” is a perfectly acceptable stat spread in a singleplayer campaign where you don’t need to fight the likes of Pheromosa and Iron Valiant.
@MagnafoxOdyssey It didn't fully work because the option to excessively grind is not only viable, but requires less brainpower to do than to engage with the daily events. It's not the player's responsibility to curate their own fun.
Why wouldn't I use the overabundance of exp in modern games to brute force to the credits with a static team of six? My goal is to win. If the game didn't make winning fun, it failed.
In older Pokemon games you need to restrain yourself from grinding to have fun (a design fault admittedly), in modern Pokemon games you need to restrain yourself from sticking to a team of 6 in order to not break the game.
There's a funny double standard here.
With older Pokemon games, people argue that you have to play the game on its own terms and it's the player's fault for not engaging with every mechanic as intended.
But they almost never apply this thinking to modern Pokemon games.
@BoltBeamVGC The game becomes much more fun and engaging when you don't grind, but it shouldn't be the player's responsibility to curate that fun. It should be the game's responsibility to reward the correct way to play and stop/punish incorrect play.
@BoltBeamVGC You can list of dozens of reasons why grinding isn't mandatory and yet, people still do it, because the objective is to beat the game, and they'll try anything within the game's confines to reach that goal.
