@melaniem528 this! and they also discussed the huge impact the Catholic church had on public opinion, I remember one of the speakers wanted to make sure that members of NYC’s political scene didn’t hear of the Archbishop’s preaching because of the sway the church had at the time.

@aaa_lsol @aaa_lsol agreed, the community organizing affected great change in getting access to the life-saving medication, but the social aspect (I think they all talked about the eroticism of ACT UP meetings) definitely helped individuals feel less alone.

it’s great to see Act Up’s success, but quite frustrating that it took SO many protests, so much grassroots organizing, and so much loss of life order to get lifesaving medicine, likely due to the levels of intersectionality that Act Up examined with their own affinity groups.

describing the LGBTQ+ population as “convenient” for the AIDS crisis is baffling and somewhat goes back to what we talked about about tolerance, and their status as “other” allowed this crisis to continue. #unitedinanger #NUReISex
