NEW RECORD AND COFFEE SHOP OPENS IN THE NORTHERN QUARTER
We’re loving Onsite Records. And not merely because they’re our new neighbours (they’re literally a few doors down).
We’d travel for this selection of tunes - from deep disco cuts to Balearica to solid house music - not to mention the coffee.
It looks smart - lovely use of ply, contrasting with the original flooring - thanks to designers Taking Shape, and if you like the prints on the wall, you can also pick up one of those too, all created by local artists.
Pals Jake and Ed are behind it, and there’s more plans in place too - including pastries and hopefully an upcoming booze license, so they’ll be selling Loco Wines and Track Brewing Co beers, as well as events on Fridays and Saturdays.
Head down and say hi.

A lovely place to have spent the night.
I was out at 5 am when I noticed a Swan family I follow under the bridge.
Shame about the littler, people come to a beautiful place then leave their mess behind.
People say Zurich is expensive, this is a 4 star hotel, 2 minutes from the Bahnhofstrasse, 5 mins from Lake Zurich! Starched white table linen and silver tableware. £134. You find me that in London or Doncaster for that matter! 😂
And now I’m here in Aladdin’s Cave, somewhere in London. If you like beautiful cars, then this is a treat for you. Aston Martin, Ferrari, and even Citroen.
THE HATCH IN CHINATOWN SELLING SERIOUS VIETNAMESE COFFEE AND TOASTIES
Cue, owner of Chinatown favourite Pho Cue Kitchen, is pretty serious about his coffee.
Get him started on beans and roasting and prepare to be educated.
So he’s flipped what used to be a hatch selling roast ducks and char sui into a mini speciality coffee and Vietnamese toastie kitchen.
Both are pretty sensational.

'Police state' row as officers track down and threaten to arrest man who criticised his local Green councillor over outdoor drinking ban https://t.co/Alpvz6Yrnf
I am having a drink this evening with a friend in a Chiswick pub. Two policemen have just come into the pub and asked me to step outside. I have stepped outside and they have threatened me because I tweeted about a councillor banning seating outside pubs in Chiswick. They admit on video (watch it!) that I did not break the law at all. They came to threaten me. To warn me off tweeting about councillors and the council. This is modern Britain. This is the police state. Please, please, please watch this video. It does involve me using very bad language, but this has got to be seen. Police coming out to threaten someone who hasn’t committed a crime. I’m fuming.
This song ‘Just Like Heaven’ was released by The Cure almost 40 years ago. 🤯
When we see all these older artists & bands, the first thing you notice is their voice has left them. They just don’t have it anymore.
Which makes Robert Smith’s voice that much more amazing. He sounds exactly the same playing to 40,000 people recently. 💯
What were you doing back in 1987 on October 5th, the day this song was released?
JOSEPH HOLT OPENS ANCOATS’ ‘NEWEST OLDEST PUB’ AFTER EIGHT YEARS
After closing way back in 2018, Ancoats lost one of its last and oldest community pubs.
And while it’s been a long time coming - The Shamrock has finally become The Spinner’s Rest, thanks to a painstaking restoration that has taken eight years, courtesy of Manchester’s historic brewery @JosephHolt1849.
This is a proper local, open to all, and hoping to become a proper pillar of the community, with great pub grub, top pies, sports on the telly, its very own bespoke lager and an enviable suntrap of a terrace - which when it rains is fully cover-up-able (luckily).
It opens on 29 June. Go down and say hello.

Many of the musicians featured on “Buena Vista Social Club” were in their 70s, 80s, and even 90s at the time of recording.
Their voices and playing embody decades of Havana’s musical history, and Ry Cooder captured it all in just six days of live, largely improvised sessions.
