Obviously it's not me he's thinking of, but I say this all the time. Just being able to identify your own bloody eggs would be extremely useful to cuckoo victims.
@thezigss @jamgyal@morallawwithin The problem with this line is that to support it you need to establish that God (unlike the universe) *is* necessary, and if you can do that then all the stuff about causation is unneeded. It saves the conclusion but not the argument.
Honestly. @dwnews did one of their current-events language lessons where the news hook was a teacher beating up a student for wearing a Palestine flag and a keffiyeh. Somehow the *entire* discussion was about antisemitism.
13 year old boy with full thickness burns in all of his face and his upper limbs. His older brothers were trying to keep him calm by telling that all he needed were some creams and he will be alright. He will not be alright
@GlobalEcoGuy You say here the GS transports much more heat, but the realclimate article you link says “The AMOC however moves the bulk of the heat into the northern Atlantic”—because the Gulf Stream’s return flow is still warm.
Distinction noted, but I suspect most readers will think “Gulf Stream shutdown = cold N Europe, like Canada, oh shit”.
Gulf Stream ain’t gonna shutdown: yay. But, per the article JF links later, it’s the *AMOC* that does the northward heat transport. So: back to oh shit?
@MikeBenchCapon@JoshuaLWatson Twitter’s the public square though. If I applied that standard to anything I might say that might upset someone, rightly or wrongly, there’s not much I *could* say.
I’m sure most people can deal with just one swear word before muting me.
@MikeBenchCapon@JoshuaLWatson The OP phrasing “what does it add” is a special peeve of mine: what it adds is swearing which doesn’t need special justification because it’s not immoral.
@MikeBenchCapon@JoshuaLWatson I understand when someone swears *at* you it has a certain power. I think being bothered by the use of swear words as such means you’ve confused a conventional proscription with a moral one.
(I respect when people ask me not to swear around them, that’s just being kind.)
20 years out of the US and I’d almost managed to forget how many of them think nuking Japan was an excellent idea that reflects well on them and their national character.
