Couldn’t be more grateful for my team, the world’s best dentist @thenobsdentist and the world’s best CEO @calvinandnobs.

And I want you all to understand that this is entirely possible for *you* too.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that this operation is mostly run off of iMessage. We hate slack and anything corporate.

No external funding, the three of us bootstrapped this entire thing. Kept our jobs til we (okay, just me) went grey, worked around the clock for years to make it happen.

NOBS is just three people who met on twitter and knew someone had to fight back against Big Fluoride™️.

“Someone”, so . . . why not us?

To be clear, “us” includes all of you. NOBS would be nothing without you guys.

Having grown up with some tough wounds around money, I’ve had this stuck in my head all day since I saw it

In the last two years, I have discovered I am allowed to do and have things for the pleasure of doing and having them

And ever since, making the little girl in me happy has become one of my favorite activities

Joy is worth expense.

Provided you can honestly say you deserve it, you are worth expense.

And you should treat yourself as such.

I told someone this morning that you are an edge case of a human & that I don’t know a single other person who thinks the way you do

Through a difficult period of life at the beginning of this year, I developed an intense sense of paranoia

Every phone notification, of which sometimes it feels I get about a hundred an hour, would spark deep dread in my stomach

“Oh God, what’s wrong now?” on constant loop

What I’ve come to understand since is that anxiety/paranoia is a manifestation of living your life on defense

If you live as if you have to react to every single stimulus, you will necessarily live in a sympathetic state. And eventually, you will experience burnout.

It took me a few weeks upon realizing I was living life playing defense to internalize corrective behaviors

For example, if you fear a phone call from someone, you literally don’t have to pick up the phone.

You can just *not* do things.

You can see the notification, breathe deeply and relax yourself, then call them back two minutes later.

Offense, not defense.

Then we can extrapolate this: Where else are you playing defense?

Do you hold yourself to standards you don’t hold others to?

This can be good if it helps you execute, but in interpersonal matters, it often turns to pedestalizing the other party

Do you prevent yourself from seizing opportunity so you don’t risk failure? (Ex. “I didn’t want that anyways”, cope!)

Do you rehearse a conversation twenty times from every angle so you never say anything you didn’t approve first?

Do you apologize when you haven’t done anything wrong to avoid having to deal with the uncomfortable feeling of someone being upset with you?

If so, you’re playing defense. You deserve a better life than that.

Start playing offense and act like it.

Yeah I hear you - issue is twofold

1) one has to solve for finding people that are willing to have the hard conversations with them

But almost more difficult:

2) one must be willing to take criticism (from trusted sources) on the chin

I have been blessed with excellent council in my life. Otherwise I’d be far less likely to catch these blind spots.

The life I have now would not be possible in large part without Twitter

I have attended four Twitter weddings in the last year, been an active user since 2021

This place is the modern town square

It allows you to find your people by removing geographical and socioeconomic barriers

And there is absolutely no other platform like it.

Suffice it to say, I’m so thrilled to see all of you back on the TL.
