On March 24, 1962, Emile Griffith stopped Benny Paret in the 12th round of their televised welterweight title fight.

After absorbing a prolonged, unanswered barrage, Paret suffered catastrophic brain injuries. He never regained consciousness and died 10 days later, on April 3, 1962, at just 25 years old.

In 1966, undefeated heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali defended his world title against Cleveland Williams at the Houston Astrodome.

Williams had returned to boxing after surviving a 1964 shooting that left him permanently injured, earning another title shot with four comeback victories.

Ali dominated from the opening bell, scoring three knockdowns in Round 2 before the referee stopped the fight at 1:08 of Round 3. It was the only meeting between Ali and Williams.
