There are some smart people on here who got too deep into rigid frameworks about how football is played and are thus still committed to explaining this guy’s brilliance as completely context dependent. I hope they let go of ego and embrace artistry. It will be healing, I promise.
The next evolution of Bukayo Saka: one-touch finishes, back-post tap-ins, goals goals goals. His positioning has shifted this season, closer to goal. Arteta is demanding a mentality shift, too. He wants Saka to score “two or three per game”

"You are not a lighthouse anymore," said Mikel Arteta to Declan Rice. So what is the Arsenal midfielder now?
How Rice's passing game has gone through the roof. Much more active in the final third + number of backwards passes down by 50 per cent. #afc

@Jayinsightz Contrary to popular belief, Barcola is not stylistically a good fit for Arsenal. He's a great runner, but a mediocre dribbler. He's a space attacker and very likely to experience similar problems Martinelli faced.
Yildiz too. They are all prolific second strikers. LW role has evolved, but people are still sleeping. Vini was a market opportunity, that's why I'm keeping him separate.
The move from Martinelli to Barcola isn't improving us. Martinelli is more productive in the UCL than Barcola, and the club clearly doesn't care about Barcola's farmer league stats.
Martinelli and Barcola are space attackers and we usually can't find space, so it's really that simple. LW role has evolved over the last year; roaming, cutting inside, getting into the box and shooting. I understand perfectly why Arteta is so insistent on LHS-biased second strikers.
There's a moment in this game where you see Martin Odegaard redirecting the Arsenal press. Before that, their OOP was all over the place. After, it tightened right up. Those sorts of players who can fix structural things on the field are so important.
Arteta: “Noni deserved the chance he got and he grabbed it with both hands. In training he has been the best player in the last 10 days. Every time he had the ball he looked a threat.”
Having MLS + Rice in midfield in possession is a bit redundant, imo. Both want to receive outside the block, both take longer time on the ball. I love MLS but the difference between him and Bruno beside Rice is incredible. It’s so much easier to get Odegaard on the ball w/ Bruno
