When I got took to a gym as a freckle faced little 10 year old – little did I know, 30 years later how much that would have had an impact on my life.
BUT, it’s not been an easy straightforward road, in fact quite the opposite.
Getting punched in the face from people who have trained to knock you out is a scary bloody thing.
I’ve been concussed around 6 times through a hard punches to the temple, to the point where your legs go like jelly and you lose full memory of everything after, is a tough horrible thing…
leaving me with low confidence thinking “I’m chinny” and afraid of being knocked out.
I’ve had 6 major surgeries throughout my career.
3 on my hands
My elbow
My nose
On the scar above my eye.
Also, I left school with nothing, I decided not to do my GCSE exams, it was a distraction to my boxing, and I couldn’t stand school… at the time ai was the England boxing team captain training for the European Championships which I went to and won gold 🤯– I ended up leaving school with zero grades (I don’t recommend this BTW it wasn’t a smart move).
I missed so many things in my younger years like the school prom, trips away with my mates.
On my 21st birthday I was on a training camp in London with the England boxing team before we flew off to Melbourne for the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
I had to learn how to earn a living while trying to make it to the Olympics, because I was getting paid hardly anything to train, this was turning my brain into business.
I drew a fight that was live on TV in front of over 300,000 viewers, because my promoter lied to me about how many rounds I was fighting – he told me 6 and I found out after the 6th round it was 8, it made me look awful.
This caused the public to absolutely abuse me on social media, 1000s of messages telling me “YOU’RE SHIT” and “You should quit now you’re not going to make it.”
This really took a tole on my mental health for that period.
At the age of 27 when I got forced to retire, as I damaged both of my hands, a whole on one knuckle, a rip in the other, I couldn’t turn a key 🔑, button my trousers, my hands where so bad.
I had no “PLAN B……
After retirement, I put on weight, felt depressed and didn’t know what I was going to do with my life.
I’d boxed since the age of 10 years old, now 17 years later I’m out in the big wild world, no qualifications, had no idea what I was going to do. I had no advice from anyone, as no one knew about “life after boxing”
BUT what boxing did give me and leave me with was –
A world of education…
Yes, I didn’t get any qualifications in school –
But BOXING was my education, I put more hours in on that than any doctor/lawyer/banker trains for.
I did the reps.
It’s ingrained in my brain 🧠
It also left me with a HUGE work ethic – if you have boxed at any level, you know the work ethic that you need.
I did that consistently for 17 years…
So after boxing, when I opened some gyms it was easy…. These gyms really blew up the boxing fitness scene around the world…
Now, If someone criticizes me online – easy to deal with, because of the shit I’ve been through.
Good boxers are great at solving problems… this is something else that has translated to my life and business.
I can “figure it out” thanks to boxing
Ya see, for all the hard things boxing has put me through…
I wouldn’t change any of it.
They’ve all been lessons for life…
It’s given me the experience and the knowledge that I have right now…
To be in the position I’m in right now.
Helping millions of people from around the world…
I love BOXING and the life I have made from it. ♥️🥊
If ya know me, you know I would NEVER recommend anything I don’t think is BRILLIANT.

When I moved to LA to train with Tommy Brooks for my last pro fights.
I was training right alongside Evander Holyfield.
Imagine that, here I was from a small gym in Sunderland now sharing a ring with the only boxer in history to win the world heavyweight championship 4 separate times.
When I started training with these guys, I was expecting some secret training method. Special drills.
Techniques nobody else knew.
And guess what?
The workouts were… basic.
Very basic.
Warm-up.
Jump rope.
Shadow boxing.
Rounds on the bags.
Speed ball.
Abs.
Done.
No gimmicks.
No flashy equipment.
No overcomplicated systems.
Just the basics done VERY well. Or should I say, perfectly.
And the heavy bag rounds were the centrepiece of every single session.
Not padwork. Not sparring. The bag.
The people at the top aren't doing anything different from you.
They're doing the same things… they're just doing them with intention.
Every round has a purpose.
Every punch has a reason behind it.
That's exactly what I built the Heavy Bag Boxing Academy around.
Not fancy drills you'll never use.
(Well, there are a few in there I recommend.)
Not complicated systems that look impressive on paper.
World Class fundamentals.
Taught properly.
With structure. With purpose.
So every time you put gloves on and walk up to that bag, you know exactly what you're doing and why.

P.S. My trainer Tommy Brooks, also trained Mike Tyson, Pernel Whitiker, Evander Holyfield, and loads of other world champions.
And his secret was never a secret.
It was mastering the basics.
