Before the recent Ayton trade, the last player trade where the Lakers actually acquired draft picks was the Russell Westbrook deal in 2023.

Since then:
• Picks out.
• Pick swaps out.
• Young players out.
• Almost nothing coming back in draft compensation.

Good front offices don't just acquire talent—they constantly replenish assets.

The Lakers have spent years operating like every trade is "all-in," leaving themselves with one of the thinnest draft cupboards in the league.

That's not sustainable under the new CBA.
