On October 24th, the day after the update, during one of the worst moments in cs history for skin owners, my friend was approached by the friend of a large chinese collector who was quick selling all of his high tiers items, including a 4x Reason holo ST FN Vulcan, FN Pandoras, FN Hedge Maze and MW T1 932 Kimonos. He was acting as a broker for the collector, and was ready to accept very low prices for the items, in his own words "I will sell it for whatever the price, just name your offer", after my friends offer was accepted, he was told he would be able to get a discount if he was willing to pay with alipay(chinese paypal) and to avoid using any platforms. My friend realized there is no such thing as a free lunch, and that the whole deal was sketchy, so he made it clear he would only buy the item through youpin. My friend was paying only about 1/7th of the items original price before the market crash, which is obviously a huge discount. After he purchased the item on youpin, everything went smoothly without any issues until about 4 days after the purchase was made. The broker came back and says that the owner wants to reverse, but if my friend was willing to pay him 40% more for the item, he would convince the collector not to reverse the trade. He threatened trade reversal if the extra payment was not made. My friend is forced to agree to pay him after trade lock ends. Fast forward to the day that trade lock ends, my friend discovers that he was threatening every other buyer that he quick sold to to make another extra payment or else he will reverse the trade. My friend and other buyers shared the amount of extra money they were being asked for and the buyer for FN Hedge maze and FN pandoras (paid with bank transfer) stated that he will not be threatened and will make the seller pay for reversing even if he pays back the money.
This leads to an important question that needs to be asked, will steams trade reversal update kill CS2 trading? Buyers rights are not being protected. If sellers are able to reverse whenever they want with no real penalty, and the market price continues to fall, sellers will not reverse; if the market recovers, sellers will reverse. As long as they get the skin back and don't have balance deposited into the marketplace they are selling on, the marketplaces punishment isn't mandatory. They can simply register a new account with a different identity and resell on the new account. An important question that needs to be asked, who will keep putting their money into this market that has no credibility whatsoever? Recently, after this market crash, so many of my friends have stated that multiple of the items they've purchased have been reversed, some having reversals every single day if they bought a larger amount of items. Many Chinese buyers I've talked to, including the victims of this incident, had almost ALL of the skins they bought on the 24th (day of the market crash) reversed. Just today, I personally have also experienced 5 separate reversals myself TODAY.
