“Life is a series of choices and relationships. Every choice has a consequence, every relationship has an impact.” -Coach Ike
“Everyone is presented the same choice: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. Choose wisely.” -Coach Owen
Overprotected kids become unprepared adults.
Dawn Staley nailed it.🔥
You can’t shelter your child from every hard moment and then expect them to handle adversity when it counts.
Hard is the lesson.

The coaches and parents who allow this to go on are the problem. Instead of teaching kids how to play the game the right way and show respect for the opponent they’re worried about getting viral attention. Embarrassing.
Dan Hurley on the two personas every head coach must master:
The Jockey 🏇, and the Corner Man. 🥊
In practice — you are the jockey. You push. You challenge. You demand more than they think they have. You stretch them past comfort so execution becomes inevitable.
On game night — you become the corner man. You steady. You simplify. You remind them who they are. Confidence replaces correction.
Preparation is where you build them.
Performance is where you believe in them.

This is Pure Gold. I had the pleasure of spending time with Coach Holtz. I wanted to hear him explain his Three Rules for Life! 1) Do what’s right - trust. 2) Do everything to the best of your ability- commitment. 3) Show people you care - love. It’s pretty simple. He goes on to highlight why the transfer portal is ruining college football. The kids are losing out on the life lessons learned- how to persevere, how to be committed to a program and a group of people. You miss out on the bonds you create over 4 years. If you leave, you still have the problem, you are changing the address. These are words to live by.
Adversity is guaranteed.
How do you regulate your emotions when it happens?
Your ability to “get out of the bucket” quickly ultimately determines your success.
This is a great tool to use with athletes.

Marcus Freeman shares why "leading by example" isn't enough.
"We don't love leaders by example. Because leaders by example are guys that do what they're told to do, they do everything they're asked, right?"
"But they don't say things when their teammates aren't reaching the standard. We can't have that."
Real leadership isn't just performing at the standard. It's protecting the standard.
"We need more leaders. Guys that are willing to hold their teammates accountable because it's gonna make your teammate better."
Accountability isn't about being hard on people. It's about caring enough to not let them settle.
"I wanna make everybody in our organization the best they possibly can be. So if I let you cut corners or I don't say something to you when you're falling under the standard, then I'm not helping push you to the best you can be."
Leading by example is the baseline.
Leading with accountability is the standard.

The final chapter is yet to be written.
How awesome, this moment, to be standing on the doorstep of history.
Some scoff, still. Some doubt, always.
Go out and own the moment fellas.
