The BPFTA 2026 commemoration event will take place in Brussels and Paris, where we will visit key WW2 escape line locations. The Escape Line 'tour' will be by public transport and/or on foot.
The event will be in early May 2026. Details will be available on our website shortly.

Hernani will host an exhibition BPFTA: 10 Years + Recovering and Commemorating the Work of Basque Mountain Guides, their Helpers and the Fugitives. The exhibition takes place on 13-15 June and from 16-20 June.

In 1939, Elisabeth Furse, a 29-year-old mother, trained as an ambulance driver, but eventually joined the Pat Line later on in WW2, responsible for smuggling soldiers over the Pyrenees mountain range.

Really looking forward to reading this epic story of #Waterford man Captain Tom McGrath who escaped from Stalag XXA, a German prisoner-of-war camp in northern Poland.

The book by his son Tom McGrath. Also reflects on the story of his mother who was at the same time ‘imprisoned in a mother and baby home’ in Ireland.
