A new test kit called the faecal immunochemical test (FIT) was introduced in England in June 2019. This kit is now sent with all invitations for bowel cancer screening.

Although bowel cancer is the 4th most common cancer in the UK, it is the 2nd biggest killer (lung cancer being the 1st).

Everyone aged 60 to 74 who is registered with a GP and lives in England is automatically sent a bowel cancer screening kit every 2 years.
