Taiwan is basically Arrakis.

It's the sole source of the single most important commodity for our civilization, that if produced in enough quantities can perform miracles, enable space travel, solve longevity, birth gods.

Both Chips and Spice come from sand.

Both are produced by super-long, complicated machines that essentially no one actually understands or is able to reproduce.

Both are threatened by totalitarian and violently oppressive regimes whose political orders are based on treacherous games of back-stabbing slippery-pole politics that skew heavily towards rouge color themes.

I wouldn't be surprised if many TSMC employees live in secret Seiches to hide their true numbers from Harkonnen ornithopters.
