Companies who do this kind of thing are seriously disgusting, but its also typical now. It wasn't even that Vasquez was opposed to more comics or wasn't willing to work on them, it's just that nobody even bothered to ask. Who needs Jhonen Vasquez to make more Invader Zim? Who needs George Lucas to make Star Wars? Who needs Chris Carter to make X-Files? Who needs Joss Whedon to make more Buffy? Who cares about what Anne Rice would have wanted to do with an Interview with the Vampire TV show?

These companies just view these things as product that can be pumped out by whoever it's easiest to hire for the next shift at the sausage factory. And for the record, it sounds like the people making the comics and possibly Boom Studios who are publishing them were under the impression that Vasquez had approved. It's Paramount that was telling them this was A-OK without even bothering to so much as send Vasquez an email.

The creativity of our artists- probably our most important and irreplaceable output as a species- is often owned by drooling cretins who understand it less than anybody and just view it as numbers on a spreadsheet that they can manipulate to squeeze out some money for themselves from the blood, sweat, and tears of other, more talented, people. Creators sometimes have to sell the rights to their most personal work because the financial reality is that's the only way they can get these projects realized or published, so the companies might legally have to right to do this stuff, but they have no moral right whatsoever to rape and pillage the dreams of people whose art is the only reason their shitty company has anything to sell in the first place
