Last week, I was sitting alone on a park bench in the evening, enjoying the cool air as the sun went down.

A Muslim woman in a full black burka came and sat on the same bench. Only her eyes showed. I nodded and said “hello” like a normal person. She turned her head away and said nothing. No greeting, no smile, nothing. Just cold silence behind her black cover.

A few minutes later, some kids walked by with their moms. The little ones got scared right away. One pointed and cried, “Mommy, ghost lady!” The mothers pulled them away fast. The woman in burka didn’t care. She just sat there like a black shadow in the dim light, not even trying to look friendly or normal.

I thought to myself: Why come to our country and our parks if you hide like this and refuse simple human contact? We are supposed to accept your extreme clothing and closed culture, but you give nothing back. No smile, no hello, no respect for our open way of life. Kids get scared because they see a walking black tent instead of a normal human face. This is not integration. This is invasion of our space with your old-world rules.
We bend over backwards for “diversity,” but they bring separation and discomfort everywhere. Sitting there on that bench in the fading evening light, it was clear — some cultures do not want to mix. They just want us to shut up and accept their differences while they reject ours.
I got up and left. Enough of this one-way street.
