@BenVerlander I’m a Giants fan but my heart breaks for A’s fans. We almost lost the Giants in 1992 so I can empathize; we were saved. I went to a lot of A’s games in the Billy Ball era in the 80s and it’s been an amazing organization. I really have no words to express my sadness for A’s fans.
@JuanNumberIsOne@giantsprospects It’s unique math to consider 16 strikeouts in 46 ABs to be 25 percent. If we’re going by plate appearances, it turns out Schwarber and Gallo don’t strike out all that much either, right?
@PavlovicNBCS We know he can hit for power against AA and AAA pitchers. It's the major league pitchers that seem to cause the problem. Let's withhold judgment until he hits a couple of long HRs against major league talent.
@BaseballJeff1 He didn’t miss many bats today. In fact, they seemed magnetically drawn to his pitches. 26 years old with less than half a season above A ball; walked a batter per inning at Richmond.
@gggiants@SFGate This convo would be much different if they’d landed Judge last offseason. It wasn’t like they sat it out. They have other issues; prospects who were highly regarded in the low minors but aren’t developing and a “buy low” reclamation strategy but I’m withholding judgment for now.
@DeadManOnAStick@jones3283@timkawakami The first proposal for a new stadium under this ownership came in 2005. If you search Wikipedia under "Oakland Ballpark," you'll see a timeline of the various proposals.
@KNBR What’s most important is acting fast and early - if they sit around and wait for Ohtani while the others get snapped up, they’ll end up with Haniger and Conforto types like last year. But do they have the fortitude to be that bold?
@bluenotecoverag @TimCPeel20@SanJoseSharks You should see them. It's really quite remarkable. They're incredibly slow, have poor puck handling skills. They're totally inaccurate with their passes. They're constantly out of position and seem to have no idea where their teammates are.
@jokerking84 @TimFlannery13 You do realize that the Rangers - like every other major league team - have a sizeable analytics team that is heavily involved in personnel decisions and briefs Bochy before every series so that he has a better understanding of matchups and player performance?
@G_Kontos Montgomery pitched 7+ innings in half of his final 8 starts in the regular season. In other words, Bochy pitched him exactly like he had been pitching him.
@hammidge710@McCoveyChron What's interesting is that Giants fans fell in love with what Luciano did against left-handed pitchers. Did you see what he did against righties? Did you notice he struck out 14 times in 27 ABs? How long will you stand up for him if he keeps doing that?
@DannyEmerman Did you learn nothing from Schmitt? A good 10 days does not make him the answer to the Giants outfield disaster. Schmitt hit two homers in his first three games. And the curveball was a hanger.
@ChristinaKahrl The opener concept is already pretty unpopular in SF, and it seems like it hasn't gone well for the Giants this year. Is there a good source of stats on this topic?
@McCoveyChron@BrianPA1841910 I’m going to stand pat here. The 72 strikeouts in 202 ABs at Richmond isnt going to play here. And 115 wRC+ at AA is nice but doesn’t scream major league starter in 2024 to me. There’s been no breakout offensive performance at any level above rookie ball yet.
