@Andie00471 During trumps tarrifs (including steel) in his 1st term, the price of steel I'd been buying for years DOUBLED in 7 days. It hasn't come down much since.
@elonmusk Trustworthy, hmmm. Elon promised self driving cars, but now says the existing cars won't. Upgrading them would cost him too much, so he's not gonna do it.
Maybe he should get Mexico to pay for the upgrades. But don't ask your buddy Donald how to do it.
@praeteritia@jbcullens@JammerX19@MeidasTouch I totally agree. Either way - paying for tariffs OR forcing manufacturing to be in US - we will lose the choice for cheaper goods and will all be paying more.
@jbcullens@JammerX19@MeidasTouch My price being lower than the competition, I have more elasticity then they do, but my demand will go down with any increase. That's why I don't just raise my price. Tariffs force my increase, along with all other foreign competitors, close to US prices = higher prices for all.
@jbcullens@JammerX19@MeidasTouch I am a business owner. If someone raises my costs, I have to pass that along. I have expenses and obligations and maintaining my profit margin is the only way to survive. (Assuming I've already cut my expenses to the bone) Same for US biz or Chinese.
@jbcullens@MeidasTouch Okay, they move manufacturing to US, which raises their cost of production paying US labor rates, land prices, and all other costs. They then raise their prices equal to US product.
The net result is Americans can no longer buy a less expensive product. We pay higher prices.
