BREAKING: The anonymous White House staffer who posted that racist meme on trump's social media account was also mentioned in the epstein files 38,000 times.
As I reflect on this tournament every year one sentence come to mind. Wrestling is hard. Seeing men in the back rooms broken having to get up and keep going is something that no one can understand unless you have been in the arena. Humbled every year. Thank you wrestling.
I do my best thinking when the rest of the world is a little more quiet. 🩷
This sport is tough. As a previous college athlete ( don’t judge that on my
Appearance now or the hurt I feel getting up and down Matside 9 hours in…)
I wish I had known or someone
Had told me these things a few more times…..
So for all of you athletes…( my bigs/lils and others) if you need to hear it-
Read these……
1- If 40% is all you can give and you give me that 40- you’re giving 100% of what you are capable of giving.
2-Don’t forget how far you’ve come- The time and sacrifices it takes to even get to this level is truly inspiring and never a waste of time or passion.
3-Failure doesn’t hold a candle to
What regret feels like.
4-I’m proud of you. Not because of your win/loss record or the accolades you have received, but simply having the courage to walk out on that mat knowing
that today your best may not be enough to win- and yet you do it anyways.
5-Don’t be so quick to hurry through it. Through the joy and through the pain. Let them both sink in a little. Don’t linger too long, but enough time to recall what confidence feels like and enough time to grow from the pain you felt.
6- Anything can be used
For motivation. I used to think I had to be motivated by something or someone. We can create motivation ourselves.
7- Trust. You will only go so far on your own. No one reaches the highest of levels without help. Trust the ones put in positions to help you.
8- Take knowledge from anywhere you find it. Sometimes someone can explain something by a different phrase or motion that just clicks. You are limiting yourself by working with/asking questions to only one person.
9- I love you. Why do we hold back saying this so much? Love isn’t meant to be conditional or earned.
* told Doug one day I’m gonna just say it to all our kids because I do love them and if it’s weird it’s weird, but if I sent my kid off to college I want him to be loved and cared for just as much as he is
Pushed and taught.
10- Lastly, mental health isn’t something you have to wait until you’re struggling to work on. I can look back now and identify anxiety and perfectionism all throughout my college sports experience. Heck we are trained to be performance driven and usually rewarded for good performance. What happens if we don’t make an effort to work on this? Well as we get older we start to associate good performance =valued, Lovable, worthy and a bad performance=not good enough, unlovable, unworthy. *
*COACHES ( and parents) THE WORDS YOU SPEAK IN THE MOMENTS AFTER A practice, meet, or tournament have an exponential effect on how some will view their Worth and if it will be based
On Their Performances.
If you read any of these and you wish someone had told you it growing up a little more or maybe even now go ahead and🩷 this and send to someone you know who needs to read it too.
An Open letter to my kids about Struggling and Failure....
Struggle is a part of life, and a good part at that. Struggle is the stronghold between mercy and grace- not receiving something we deserve and not deserving something we receive.
I will not protect you from your struggling and I'm doing my job as a parent by doing so. See as parents, if we are all honest, our fear of our child's failure is not because we worry about how you will react ( because we all know kids are way more resilient than we allow them to be) , but because of our own fear of how it reflect upon us. As if God made you to be a reflection of me- well he didn't - your success or failure has no impact on my life because I'll be cheering for you regardless.
From struggle comes growth, from struggle comes fight, from struggle comes understanding, from struggle comes all the blessings that God has in store for us. There is a reason why we can't have joy without suffering and vice versa.
It's because of struggle that we make decisions. It’s because of struggle we choose to give up or we give in accepting that it can be done a different way than how we have been attempting it.
See failure is an option. Without failure we can't truly experience success. Success without failure lacks appreciation, lacks humility, lacks the drive to push beyond the limits people impose on us or we impose on ourselves.
When people say failure is not an option it begins to teach you that failure is bad, that it's not something you want to be a part of, or it's not something you are allowed to be a part of.
Then it happens, just like everyone else on this amazing planet, just like your mom numerous times....you find yourself there. The place they told you you shouldn't be, or aren’t allowed to be, and because of what they said you panic, you freeze, and you don't know how to move on.
No at the end of the day I will never say failure is not an option, because If you failed that means you tried something, you chose to go beyond your current limits, you chose to not let fear dictate your life.
Struggle is good- struggle and failure keep us wanting more. So as a parent no matter how hard it is to watch you struggle, I will not wish it away because I have seen and experienced what comes from it. No, I'll be looking for you to fail, more times than not, because then I know I've succeeded as a parent. I’ll know that you did not play it safe, you did not settle for whatever everyone else was doing, and I've taught you how to get back up and try again.
love,
your mom

Tulsa Nationals- I walk by a dad…
“I didn’t fly all the way to Oklahoma for you to wrestle like this.”
If your statement starts with I ….you’re making it about you.
If your kid isn’t showing gratitude for the opportunity I get it.
If your kid lost or didn’t wrestle how you expected and your statement is “I spent all this money, I spent all the time…..”
You’re making it about you.
What happened to the memories you made? The time you had with your child.
This weekend I had one on one time with my boys. They got time being a kid playing games with close friends. They had the opportunity to travel and I had the opportunity to give them that.
That is what I’ve worked for….the opportunity to take my child places and let them grow from their experiences.
Your child’s results do not reflect your parenting, but their character does.
Let me tell you what you are reinforcing to your child:
Good Performance = love and attention
Bad Performance = time wasted together
You’re going to end up with a child who resents you and this sport.
We are all guilty of holding something over our children. What I’ve found as a once performance driven child is that I struggled as an adult not equating my worth to what I had to offer others by my performance.
Kids can be held to expectations on the mat without equating their worth and your time to their results.
Wanna grow wrestling? Start building up the ones within the sport. The ones that actually step on the mat and work with those behind the scenes. Bc looking at it now if I were a kid I would not want to go through what some of you put them through.
end of rant.
