The fact that the Eastern Orthodox (among other groups) make the exact same claim should give people pause here.

It's easy to frame church history as a winner-take-all narrative. What is needed is more appreciation of the complexity of history, more humility, more engagement with the best of alternative positions, and more reflection on the nature of the church.

What is it that sustains and defines the church amidst changes, developments, accretions, aberrations? The strength of a Protestant position is defining the church, not by outward expressions and changing forms, but by the gospel itself.
