i barely post on this site but something compelled me to reappear from the dust to tell y’all that once again, prompted by literally nothing, i am thinking of the mad tv octaroon sketch (and now so are you)
anyway happy new year comrades
Sharing @CNN’s statement and a quick message from me about what happened on tonight’s show.
I take this very seriously and want to again apologize to @mehdirhasan and I hope he’ll join us another time.
I've still been reeling and processing attending my first @RSAorg and my first presentation in many, many years. The last year away from academia has been an adventurous time, but it was nice to have a moment to remember and honor one of my past lives.
ENORMOUS thanks to @YasmineHachimi for organizing our panel and creating space for little ol' me amongst the brilliance of herself, @ZainabCheema951, and @KVMFinn. Additional thanks to @Becky_Fall for moderating and @NewberryLibrary for sponsorship.
I’ve been saying this for months. There are practical advantages that partnered people have while PhDing that are completely nonexistent for single folks.
Don't wait for your body to remind you to take a break. By that time, it's no longer rest. It's recovery. I'm personally stuck in this loop. I can't even remember the last time I took a day off. Our bodies can only take so much, and they deserve so much more. Take care.
Calling historians of sexuality! I have a sense-memory of reading someone who used the term 'suffused' to describe the way queer feeling was spread through EM relationships/society - an odd word, but I'd love to track it down if this is a real memory. Any help much appreciated!
audiobook narrators need their flowers bc they can really make or break a book! the way i’ve been devouring more stories bc i know the vocal performances will eat is *chefs kiss*
my plan is to run this lil experiment until my brain resets and completely forgets about this little side quest and post updates maybe quarterly or so? little meditations/ruminations on some faves, maybe identifying some trends, throughlines, etc.
ok so i’ve been bitching for literal years about what i’ve called surprise shax where i’ve clocked the fact that nearly everyday for the last at least 2-3y, i’ve encountered some evocation of shax in the wild (i.e. non-academic/theatrical setting).
so i’m finally tracking them.
@butterbrioche omg this reminds me of the old covers of folger editions before they switched to the color swatches on the current ones (which i still love bc colorful bookshelf makes me happy, but also)
