Marc Andreessen (@pmarca)'s recent essay, “Why AI Will Save the World”, didn't meet the standards of discourse. ♦️
Claiming AI will be safe & net positive is his right, but the way he’s gone about making that claim has been undermining conversation quality.
🧵 Here's the proof:
"The really frightening thing about totalitarianism is not that it commits 'atrocities' but that it attacks the concept of objective truth."--George Orwell
There is no evidence that parachutes protect healthy individuals from injury when jumping from Cessna 182. Therefore we don't recommend the use of parachutes when jumping from this aircraft.
To say "we do not recommend the use of wearing masks unless you are sick" is like saying "we do not recommend washing hands unless your hands are contaminated"
The reason we are wearing masks is NOT to protect ourselves, it is to protect the others. I'm prob. not infected but I can't be sure so I'm wearing a mask to protect you. Also, this doesn't cause shortage of masks in hospitals because we are making our own masks. #masks4all
We need #masks4all to slow down the COVID-19 pandemic. You can make a mask from a cotton T-Shirt and wear it whenever you go outside. https://t.co/zn7Oz2eybr
