George Eliot had no children. Who on earth is Elma Stuart?

When I paid my tribute to George Eliot in Highgate Cemetery, I found that other visitors had placed blue pens intermingled with the flowers and plants that adorn the grave.

What a fitting way to pay homage to the enduring power and influence of her writing!

Oh right, for those less familiar -- Mrs. Lewes (pronounced like Louis) is George Eliot's real name. She and George H. Lewes were soulmates and we have much to be grateful to him for the birthing of Middlemarch

Fellow Middlemarch fans, have we been pronouncing Casaubon's name wrong all along?

In any case, I don't think I'm going to change my Casaubon habits. I could never get used to an accent on the second syllable.
