After some fits and starts earlier this year, I finally got Openclaw up and running this week! ๐ค
So far, I have a BrannonHQ (Chief of Staff, work-specific cron jobs, tracking priorities) and a family HQ shared with husband for logistics, calendar stuff, to-dos, meal planning + grocery delivery (which will tie into my family dashboard tablet app soon)....
What's the next high impact use case I should try?
Built a Family HQ app to display on a tablet in the kitchen. Think Skylight on steroids. It has.. (buckle up lol):
- Calendar events for the day and upcoming week and weekend
- Visual routine lists for kids to check off, e.g. ask the stuff you do between waking up and being in the car in the am
- Chore tracking with a points system. Daily chores plus bonus chores they can add on if they want to earn more, and a visual points bank so kids know what they've earned, and easy for me to subtract from, so we skip cash allowance most of the time
- Separate weekday v weekend views bc routines are different plus a "weekday but it's a school holiday" view tied to school calendars
- "Headline" messages ("Grandma visits next week!" "It's Wednesday, don't forget to bring your flute to school"), color coded based on who it applies to, can be scheduled, one-time, recurring etc.
- Weather + what to wear based on weather because 7 year olds don't know what 50ยฐ means
- Household needs and grocery list tracking with ability to request on screen (kid requests route to parent approval)
- Project tracking (clean out the closet, schedule repairs) with assigned owners - mostly used by parents
- a Traveling card where a parent traveling for work can send a photo of what they are doing and where they are a few times while away
Originally set it up using Google Apps Script, html file sitting on a Google sheet with all the data, tied to a family Slack workspace. However, it got robust enough that I'm moving it to a local database, and switching from Slack to Openclaw for interacting with it remotely.
I'm not a software engineer, just a systems thinking, project management-minded entrepreneur with a People/HR background in tech startups. I've thought a lot over the years about how to use systems to help individuals and teams find efficiency so they can apply their energy to the best and highest value use of their time, even pre-AI. So of course I'm applying it to family logistics! ๐๐ค
Rule of thumb! It takes the same # of days/weeks to get young children back into a daily routine, as the # of days/weeks they were out of routine.
So after 4 weeks of winter break + blizzard/COVID closures, I'm giving myself a pass on my kids still being a mess in early Feb. ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
Happy holidays to everyone except for the multiple recruiters in my inbox trying to solicit new business on December 24th, in the midst of NYC workplaces navigating both an omicron surge and compliance with the NYC private employer vax mandate. Read the room.
@annetgriffin i.e. it's one thing for me to provide psychological safety and work-life balance to my own direct reports, but it's another to train and motivate managers across an org to do this at scale (esp in growth stage companies). Would love a brainstorm on this sometime!
@annetgriffin I am fortunate to be in a position to do this, and feel as strongly as you do about it! I am finding that a key component is having high EQ managers all over the org who are bought in, well trained, and are leading by example. Which sounds simple enough but takes work!
@ika_une @alyssaparen@magicjewball @andrewolshevski @AmtrakNECAlerts That is terrible. Fingers crossed that some folks will get off at Wilmington or Philly, to make some space! ๐ฉ
@lbgurevich @AmtrakNECAlerts They just transferred passengers to another train which is now moving. Not sure if they got everyone, but they got a lot of us! No communication to the passengers transferred as to whether the 126 will start moving again, for folks looking to get on it at a later stop.
