Brazil’s War on Parents
In the latest masterclass of judicial absurdity, a Brazilian judge has sentenced parents to prison for the crime of… educating their own children.
Yes, really.
While violent criminals, corrupt politicians and organised gangs continue to plague large parts of Brazil, the full force of the justice system has apparently been unleashed against a mother and father who chose to homeschool their daughters.
Their offence? What authorities described as “intellectual neglect.”
One has to admire the creativity. We have reached the point where parents actively teaching their children can now be accused of neglecting their education.
George Orwell would probably ask for royalties.
This marks the first criminal prosecution of homeschooling parents in Brazil and sends a chilling message to families across the country: your children may be yours biologically, but the state increasingly believes they belong to it ideologically.
The real question is not whether homeschooling is right for every family. It isn’t.
The question is why a government that struggles to provide safe streets, functioning public services and quality state education believes imprisoning parents should be a national priority.
Authoritarian systems always begin with the same assumption: that bureaucrats know better than mothers and fathers.
The state decides.
The experts decide.
The judges decide.
Parents obey.
Brazil’s ruling class frequently lectures the world about democracy and freedom. Yet what kind of free society sends parents to prison for taking responsibility for their own children’s education?
A genuinely confident government would compete with homeschooling by offering better schools.
An insecure government criminalises the competition.
The most alarming part is not the prison sentence itself. It is the principle behind it.
Once the state claims the authority to punish parents for choosing a different educational path, there is no obvious limit to where that logic ends.
For a country already facing growing concerns over judicial overreach and government power, this ruling feels less like a legal decision and more like another step toward state control dressed up as child welfare.
After all, nothing says “freedom” quite like sending parents to jail for teaching their children.
🚨 WOW! Pro-Trump rightwing Brazil presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro just vowed to go FULL NAYIB BUKELE by constructing huge prisons and carrying out mass ARRESTS, if elected
Get him in office, Brazil! 🇺🇸🇧🇷
"President Trump can be sure that starting from the year 2027, Brazil will have a president who is an ALLY of the United States."
"I am TIRED of seeing my country being handed over into the hands of criminals! I intend to toughen the law, build prisons and keep these criminals in prison longer." 👏🏻
