A Brief History of $COQ

Although cock/coq jokes are as old as time, the meme lore went digital in 2021 with @chikn_nft, a fun gamified ecosystem where fellow chikn farmers feed their chooks (Australian slang for chickens) and partake in various play to earn activities.

Chikn farmers would often greet eachother with a "bok bok nice coq" or our own version of GM, "top of the bok, nice coq".

Our 3,000 strong chikn fam would diligently feed their chooks, fertilize farms, and forage collectables with our coqs. Things continued like this through the bear, mostly because everyone was there for the fun of it.

A collective frenship rooted in memetics and humor took shape that fostered a level of decentralized collaboration envyable by most DAOs today.

When the timing was right, @gribbly_fire and I launched the contract exactly as one like this should be: With 100% burned LP, in a renounced contract, launched with notice to the 1000s of eager participants from the Chikn/AVAX fam.

The crypto space took notice. Not 6 months passed and $COQ had been listed on dozens of the largest exchanges in the world, 70,000+ on chain holders, $1b+ in on-chain volumes and countless other milestones. I see our most overlooked achievement in our example to the entire memecoin space that kicked off the “fair launch” meta-narrative that followed.

There are dozens of projects building on top of COQ, which I won't name here but recommend checking out @0x_dano infographics which he releases every Sunday detailing all the new builders coming into the ecosystem as well as the @TheBokcast, community led spaces each night at 9pm EST.

The reason I bring this up is because $COQ is quite literally a MEME COIN. There is ZERO community fund paying for people to build around COQ. No one is paid to create awesome community events, YET somehow in just 6 months since launch there exists this massive ecosystem. I often try to wrap my head around how it all came to be but ultimately I realized it's in the meme itself.

COQ simply inspires.

As a meme historian I love studying traditional internet memes like Pepe the Frog & Wojak etc. Ultimately @Matt_Furie put it best "The idea of Pepe being a reflection of who we are is inescapable."

COQ is the perfect embodiment of what makes internet culture so compelling and transformative. What started as a friendly greeting has grown into something far bigger than anyone would have imagined.
