@jbcarmody Remember this graphic? What’s happened since 2009? And how much $$ do hospitals (and the whole
healthcare system) lose per administrator per year?
Guys, her dad was a Stanford professor. He’s been on C-Span. He’s been covered by the NYT. He’s still ALIVE. I don’t think this is gonna work the way you think it will
@ashishkjha So many guidelines in medicine have been “made up”… Like yearly exams, screenings… (Just bc that’s how long it takes the earth to revolve around the sun)
@jonathanstea The “enhanced tendency” to detect patterns is also a symptom of psychosis & paranoia (hallucinations, i.e. imagining/seeing things that aren’t there); well-portrayed (for example) by Russel Crowe as John Nash, at the end of the movie “A Beautiful Mind.”
Most patients who can be discharged “first thing in the morning”… coulda gone home the night/evening before. When you “reward” DCBN, it incentivizes hospitalists to “keep” patients “one more night” (esp when they’re at/near their census cap). https://t.co/5BWorF3QDl.
@EM_RESUS Medical errors remain quietly rampant (as if every new study doesn’t find the same). So much talk about emulating the safety of the airline industry… but inside our hospitals, collectively, effectively, there’s still a (preventable) jumbo jet crash every single day.
