@PTRCrispy@__silent_ That one’s bad too. He barely went over any actual optimization techniques they used and spent most of the vid speeding through the entire rendering pipeline, which is irrelevant if you’re not gonna point out parts that might be faster than other engines
@18thstar @notdeoxide It still would’ve existed but it would’ve been different hate. Weapons, health bar, still brake to drift, dumb story, no customization, etc… Rivals is essentially what the MW2 concept turned into without the arbitrary connection to MW05
@IChorizoI @Spikeyz123_ MW12 wasn’t gonna have customization the way you’re thinking. At most it would’ve been like Rivals where you could paint the car, add preset decals, and change the license plate. Also the prototype’s gameplay was even more vehicular combat focused than HP10
@rerangedmork@NeedforSpeed It was always there alongside the stylized smoke, I’m sure the team just wanted people to actually play around with and get used to the game’s style instead of turning it off the first chance they got
@tykjen@digitalfoundry@cataferal Because it still holds up, UE5 wasn’t available when it started production, and even if it was, using a brand new engine that’s unproven to be production-ready for anyone outside of Epic is a horrible idea
@Swagnanimus@NEO_NoiseBomb I didn’t have to backport any code, I just used features already present in Frostbite to get frame interpolation working for game objects that didn’t have it applied (which is most of the stuff that Ghost wrote)
@takuminightcore@TheQuikSilvur It was never added in the first place, these are just concepts. It’s meant to explore a look, evaluate it, and see what they can and want to implement
@PvtMcKain That method broke nearly every single game mechanic because it changed how fast the physics sim updated. The handling was off, cars couldn’t reach their top speed and sometimes couldn’t shift into their top gear, weapons timers were completely busted, engine sounds were broken…
@payforexposure Old Battlefield 3 PDBs that I think they accidentally shipped with a mobile app, plus Rivals debug builds that surfaced with some devkits years ago
@JeffHerc@__silent_ From my testing through development, I was able to complete races much more reliably than the old launch command method. This is still Rivals on PC though lol, so crashing *will* happen. All crashes seem to stem from AI pathfinding so I know where to look to start fixing that
@Sarumonin@SynthPotato@squeekypig Game engine discourse from gamers is always so painful lol. Especially when someone actually knowledgeable comes in to correct things, but nahhhh the engine is really what made and tweaked every feature, not the developers hired to design and implement said features
