I love the fact that every day we go to work, we can make a difference.
Maybe not a big difference, but lots of little differences. And those add up.
We can support a colleague, connect with a kid, make someone smile… or their burden a little lighter. That can be tomorrow!
When someone around you screws up, and they already feel bad about it… it’s usually not constructive to kick them when they’re down.
Sometimes, grace is more transformative than justice.
@ShaneSafir I am genuinely seeking an alternative to even the numeric system. Any help/resources are appreciated. I HATE grades and grading and it isn't about making less work for me but rather a better experience for my students.
What if we blew it all up?
- grades
- homework
- report cards
- tests
- subject areas
- sorting & ranking
What would an antiracist system built from the CHILD up (not the policy room down) and around our most marginalized learners look like? @DenaSimmons@chrisemdin
Today, I got students to agree to commit to learning, and only learning, when we return from break. No worries about grades and work and all that jazz. Just straight up learning. The power is in their hands, as it should be.
We don't give students/the youth enough credit. They are aware of things. They have ideas. They have convictions. They seek change. They are bright, resilient, driven, capable, and passionate. We need to listen to them, work with them, and empower them.
