Salvadoran TPS beneficiaries are a unique case. Many of us have lived in the U.S. for decades, passed extensive background checks, have no criminal records, work, pay taxes, own homes, contribute to our communities, and do not rely on public assistance. Yet we were never given an opportunity to adjust to a more permanent status.
I’m happy to see El Salvador becoming safer and beginning to thrive under President Bukele’s leadership, and grateful for the strong relationship between President Bukele and President Trump. But El Salvador is not yet prepared for the large-scale return of 170,000+ TPS beneficiaries and their families.
I believe President Trump is the leader who can finally find a thoughtful solution for Salvadoran TPS families who have spent decades contributing to the United States.
